Symbolism

What does a feather symbolise?

Across cultures, the feather has been a sign of freedom and of rising above what weighs you down. It stands for lightness – the ability to carry something heavy with a light heart.

A reminder of someone you love

Many people see a feather as a loving sign from someone they have lost. That is why a feather piece is often chosen as memorial jewellery, worn close to the heart every day.

Protection and new beginnings

The feather also symbolises protection and the courage to take the leap – which makes it a popular gift for confirmations, graduations and other milestones.

Materials

Silver, gold-plated, rhodium-plated or oxidised?

All Feather jewellery is cast in 925 sterling silver. The finish defines the look.

Sterling silver

The pure, classic look. Develops a soft patina over time, which can be polished away.

Gold-plated

Silver with a layer of gold for a warm look – beautiful alongside gold jewellery.

Rhodium-plated

A white, extra-bright layer that makes the surface more resistant to tarnishing.

Oxidised

A dark, raw finish that brings out the details of the feather. A more edgy look.

Care

How to keep your feather jewellery beautiful

  1. Take your jewellery off when bathing, swimming and exercising – chlorine and sweat make silver tarnish.
  2. Apply perfume and lotion before putting your jewellery on.
  3. Store your jewellery airtight, e.g. in a small pouch, so it doesn't oxidise.
  4. Polish gently with a silver cloth. Avoid polishing oxidised and gold-plated pieces hard.
